Swatch – The poetry of design

 

SWATCH AND ALESSANDRO MENDINI CELEBRATE THE POETRY OF DESIGN

Italian designer, architect and artist Alessandro Mendini has won worldwide renown for ground-breaking, surprising, magical work filled with color and positive energy. An exceptional exhibition opened this fall in Korea, “Alessandro Mendini – The Poetry of Design”, includes some of his most famous work for Swatch: five Swatch Art Specials, including the celebrated “Lots of Dots”. The exhibition runs through 28 February 2016 at the DDP(Dongdeamun Design Plaza) in Seoul.

Celebrating their life-long collaboration, Swatch and Alessandro Mendini have joined forces once again to create a new Swatch Art Special, SPOT THE DOT. For this new work, Alessandro Mendini takes advantage of a cut-away dial to reveal movement components in his signature colors. He frames this dynamic design with a see-through plastic case and, in a playful reference to his earlier work with Swatch, fills the silicone straps with big colored dots – pink, red, yellow, blue and green – on a transparent ground. The color-happy, dotty design appears again on the special sleeve.

SPOT THE DOT (SUOZ213) will initially be made available exclusively in Korea at The Poetry of Design exhibition venue and designated Swatch stores. The 10th of March, following the exhibition, the new Swatch Art Special will be available at Swatch stores all around the world.
